About Beacon of Hope

What We Do

What is “Beacon of Hope?” BOH, is a compassion ministry born out of Lighthouse Community Church of Mifflintown. We serve the communities of Juniata County Pennsylvania.

At the core of what we do, is our cooperative, community Care & Share. It’s a place where people can come and receive clothing, food, kids toys, household items and lots of other items free of charge. Keeping these core items free for our community, makes it easy for them to come and get what they need. It also allows us to serve them, with no strings attached.

The idea is, if you need something, come and get it. If you have clothing or other items to give, bring them with you.

Besides just operating the Care & Share, we do several special events throughout the year.

  • Food & produce distribution
  • Boxes of Hope (Family food boxes)
  • Direct to the family distribution (tp, paper towels, soap, laundry detergent)
  • Winter jacket giveaway
  • National Night Out
  • School support (beverages and snacks for our teachers / Sock and shoe distribution)
  • Christmas Care & Share
  • Chaplain services to our first responders

We also support local disaster response units, our community human services, and our local food pantry.

We operate strictly off of donations. Most of our clothing, and household goods, come directly from friends and neighbors in our community. We are also supplied by partner businesses and outside benevolence organizations that give. In doing so, they help others in need.

Care & Share donations can be dropped off at the church, any day of the week. Schedule a time by calling 717.417.0767 or, by emailing jodie@mifflintownag.org

Our Care & Share is open every Thursday night (no Boxes of Hope) from 6-8pm, and the third Saturday of the month (full food and produce distribution) from 12-2pm

Why We Do It

Compassion is the heart of everything we do.

We launched Beacon of Hope in 2019 as a response to needs we identified in our local community.

People in our county were hungry, broken & embarrassed about the needs they were facing.

Basing our response on scripture;

“All the believers were united in heart and mind. And they felt what they owned was not their own. So they shared everything they had.” Acts 4:32 NLT

We began to dream, “what if we could create a place where people could come, and get what they need, with no strings attached??” Where we could love and serve them.

Beacon of Hope was born.

Our Mission is simple:

“Through works of compassion to our neighbors and community, we Illuminate the Gospel, so all can see."

Come and join us!
